Diving World Cup Kicks Off in Montreal
Montreal World Cup
Montreal, February 26, 2026 – Montreal officially gets underway today with the Diving World Cup at the Olympic Stadium, beginning with the preliminary rounds.
No fewer than 150 athletes from more than 25 countries will be in action, making this the largest edition ever held in Canada in terms of participation.
Canada will be represented by a team of 12 athletes, including Olympic medallists Rylan Wiens and Nathan Zsombor-Murray, as well as Olympians Kate Miller and Margo Erlam.
A New Chapter for Zsombor-Murray
Bronze medallist in the 10-meter platform at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Zsombor-Murray is now transitioning to the 3-meter springboard and will be competing in his second event in the discipline. His decision was motivated by a desire to renew his motivation and explore new possibilities in his career.
“After winning an Olympic medal in the 10 m, I wanted a new challenge. So I decided to try the 3 m and realized I could potentially build a career on the springboard,” he explained. “It’s quite rare to see athletes make this transition at the senior international level. I quickly saw that I could execute dives with a high degree of difficulty in training, so I thought it would likely be possible for me to compete.”
Firsts… and Homecomings
This stop on the circuit will mark a first World Cup appearance in Montreal for four members of the Canadian team.
For Sonya Palkhivala, Katelyn Fung and Matt Cullen, it will be a return to the city where they shone at the 2022 World Championships, with Cullen notably capturing gold in the 10-meter platform. Carson Paul will be competing in his very first international event in Montreal.
For several athletes, the event represents a rare and valuable opportunity to compete in front of family and friends.
“I can’t wait. I’m really excited to compete at home,” said Palkhivala. “It’s rare that we get the chance to dive in front of our family and friends.”
Veteran Mia Vallée will also be in action, alongside Benjamin Tessier, Amélie-Laura Jasmin and Cédric Fofana.
Competition continues through Sunday. All event information is available here.
