Montréal, April 13, 2026 – Canadian diver Sara-Jade Tessier dominated the Next Gen Championships in Edinburgh, Scotland, this past weekend, climbing to the top of the podium three times in as many competitions in Group B.
The athlete from Blainville, QC, captured her first medal in the 3m springboard event with an impressive score of 343.30, more than 20 points ahead of her closest rival.
She clinched her second gold medal in the 1m springboard event with a score of 324.70, then completed her hat trick with a spectacular victory on the platform, where she was accompanied by her compatriot Maia Jane. The two Canadians secured the top two spots on the podium with respective scores of 315.05 and 313.90.
“Some of my dives were good, while others weren’t so great. I’ll keep working on them when I get back to Montréal. I’m able to compete far from home, away from my parents. My hard work in practice has really paid off,” said a delighted Tessier.
Jane, of British Columbia, also finished fifth in the 1m springboard finals and eleventh in the 3m qualifiers.
“I’m very happy with the way I dove. I was really nervous before the competitions began, but I gradually felt better as we went along. For the platform event, I felt much calmer, and I was able to be consistent and have a great finish,” she explained.
Alistair Nisbet also had a great weekend in the United Kingdom, stepping onto the podium three times. His highest result was in the Group B platform event, where he won the gold medal. The athlete from Lachine collected 416.10 points to finish ahead of Great Britain’s Joshua Saxton and his score of 372.75.
Nisbet also captured silver in the 1m springboard event (343.80) and bronze in the 3m competition (383.55).
“I’m really happy with my performance. It wasn’t perfect, but I performed most of my dives pretty well. I added a new dive to my 1m list, and it’s been going well in training. I know that with more practice, it will get even better and my scores will be even higher,” said Nisbet.
Two additional Canadians, both from Quebec, departed Scotland with new hardware. Mackenzie van Houtte-Cacheco took silver in the Group A 3m springboard event with 411.25 points, in addition to finishing fourth on the 1m board. Samuel Talbot captured silver in the Group A platform competition with a score of 510.85.
Also competing at the Next Gen Championships was Dean Calfacacos-Dacoulis, who finished fourth in the Group A 1m event and ninth in the 3m preliminaries.
“I know I could have done better. But I learned a lot, and I’m happy to have landed several very good dives. Even when one of my dives went badly, I didn’t let it get me down, and I stayed focused, because anything can happen. That allowed me to have a great finish,” he concluded.
