Bronze Medalist Benjamin Tessier Sets His Sights Even Higher
Bolzano Meet
Montréal, July 5, 2026 – Although he is pleased to have won the bronze medal in the platform event at the Bolzano Meet in northern Italy, Benjamin Tessier had hoped to climb even higher on the podium.
Having placed second in yesterday’s semi-finals, Tessier demonstrated remarkable consistency throughout the outdoor competition on Sunday as he fought his way to the podium. In the finals, the Québécois amassed a total of 414.80 points to collect the bronze medal.
“Consistency is key. I was aiming for first place, but I’m happy with my bronze medal. However, I would have liked to perform better. My entries may be the reason I didn’t get the results I was after, because everything went well on the platform and in the air,” said Tessier.
Jonah Mercieca of Australia captured gold with a total of 424.95 points, 7.85 points ahead of Robbie Lee of Great Britain, who finished second.
In the same event, Matt Cullen placed sixth with a final score of 339.65.
The Canadians’ attendance at the Bolzano Meet was also meant to help prepare the divers for outdoor competitions, such as those that will take place at the Los Angeles Olympic Games in 2028. According to Tessier, he is slowly beginning to adapt to the change of environment. “My biggest challenge was diving outdoors. But it went much better than I expected. I got used to it quite quickly,” he said.
Earlier on Sunday, Mia Vallée finished fourth in the 3m springboard finals, with 280.90 points. Maddison Keeney of Australia nabbed the gold medal with 337.85. She was joined on the podium by Chiara Pellacani of Italy (326.10) and Sophia Verzyl of the USA (294.20), who placed second and third, respectively.
Yesterday, Vallée dominated the semi-finals, finishing with 300.30 points.
In the men’s synchronized 3m finals, Nathan Zsombor-Murray and Carson Paul came in fifth, with 366.69 points. Quentin Henninger and John Ryan of the USA won the competition.
