A four-medal haul, including a one-two finish
Junior America’s Cup
Montréal, May 22, 2026 – On the heels of a three-medal performance by Canada’s divers yesterday, the Canadian team upped its game on Friday, with a four-medal haul at the Junior America’s Cup in Mission Viejo, California.
Quebec’s Alistair Nisbet (408.90) led the way, with a gold medal in the 14-15-year-old boys’ Group B platform event. His Albertan teammate Chase Shaw followed right behind him, snagging silver with 403.45 points.
Philippe Wadsworth of British Columbia added another silver medal to his tally, finishing second in the 12-13-year-old boys’ Group C 3m springboard event. On Thursday, he picked up a silver medal in the 1m contest.
Quebec’s Sara-Jade Tessier collected bronze in the 14-15-year-old girls’ Group B 1m competition, after winning gold in yesterday’s 3m event.
In Thursday’s 1m springboard competition, Shaw and Nisbet finished third and fourth, respectively, with less than a point separating them. On Friday, they once again went head-to-head, this time taking the top two spots on the podium. They were joined by Australia’s Hayden Brinckley (388.05), who finished third.
“I’m so happy! I was happy yesterday too, but I would have liked to do better. This time, I did what I set out to do,” said Nisbet. “I’m satisfied with my consistency. In the finals, three of my four dives were really good, and the fourth one was pretty decent too. I even received scores as high as nine, which was very good. [. . .] It was my best-ever performance in an international event,” stated the gold medallist, who also won the platform competition at the Next Gen Championships in Scotland last month. Today’s first-place finish in California, however, holds even more significance for Nisbet, as his final score was 20 points higher than his score in Europe.
As for Shaw, he was delighted to step onto the podium for the second day in a row.
“Even before the finals, I felt ready. Yesterday, the fight for the podium was pretty fierce. [Today], I’m proud of my performance in the finals, compared to the preliminaries. But I really had to dig deep for my last two dives, in order to win the silver medal,” explained Shaw, who will attempt to capture a third medal in Mission Viejo in Sunday’s 3m event. “That would be quite an achievement!”
Philippe Wadsworth (290.45) also secured a second medal at these championships, once again finishing behind Russia’s Ivan Kliminov (338.80), this time in the 12-13-year-old boys’ Group C 3m competition. The bronze medal went to Frank Li of the USA (244.35).
In the 14-15-year-old girls’ Group B 1m springboard event, Sara-Jade Tessier captured bronze with a score of 321.55, only 1.40 points behind silver medallist Ella Guo of the USA (322.95). Alden Charrette, also of the USA, won the event with a final score of 341.25.
Maia Jane of British Columbia (303.65) finished sixth.
None of the Canadians will take part in Saturday’s synchronized events, but they will be back in action on Sunday, the final day of competition.
