Canada Cup
Montréal, April 10, 2026 – On Friday, Mia Vallée, Nathan Zsombor-Murray, Katelyn Fung, and Matt Cullen clinched Canada’s first gold medal of the Canada Cup diving event, which runs through Sunday in Windsor, Ontario. The Canadian quartet won the mixed team final with a score of 424.10 points, ahead of Great Britain (408.15) and Germany (391.45), who took silver and bronze.
A second Canadian team, made up of Margo Erlam, Tazman Abramowicz, Lila Gokiert, and Benjamin Tessier, also advanced to the finals. They finished fourth with 355.95 points.
Today’s gold medallists were the most consistent team in the competition, and they managed to avoid any major errors, perhaps due in part to the international experience they have already gained as a unit, as Cullen pointed out.
“We had the same team roster at the Montréal World Cup [in February], and we’ll be together again in China [at the World Cup Super Final in May]. So we saw this as an opportunity to train together. I love my team, and I’m super happy!”
The diver from Rosemère was praised by his teammate Katelyn Fung, with whom he competed in the synchronized 10m event on Friday.
“[Matt] did a great job of adapting to my needs, because it was a new dive for me, unlike for him. We’ve been friends for a long time, and I trust him,” said the Ontarian.
Their teammates Vallée and Zsombor-Murray, who competed in the 3m event, highlighted the important role team spirit played in today’s competition.
“It’s amazing to know that you’re not on your own, that we’re all in it together,” explained Vallée. “It can be more stressful than an individual event, because [if you mess up,] you’re letting down more than just yourself. But on the other hand, it’s a lot more fun because everyone gives their all, and they all cheer you on.”
Zsombor-Murray echoed his teammate’s sentiment.
“We all cheer each other on and give each other energy. That’s what this event is for: to let loose, perform our two dives, and have a good time. Winning a medal is a bonus! It’s a lot of fun, and I love it.”
Several Canadians in Sunday’s finals
Earlier on Friday, the men’s 10m and women’s 3m qualification rounds took place, along with the repechages for both events.
Vallée, of Kirkland, Quebec, obtained Canada’s best result in the preliminaries, finishing third with a score of 301.95. Erlam, of Alberta, will also advance to Sunday’s finals, after placing seventh with 289.65 points.
Quebec’s Sonya Palkhivala and Amélie-Laura Jasmin made the most of the repechage, and their second- and third-place finishes ensured they will join Vallée and Erlam in the finals on the last day of competition.
In the men’s 10m preliminaries, Tessier (419.60) and Cullen (398.45), both of Quebec, finished fourth and fifth, respectively, and will move on to the finals.
In the 10m repechage, Claude-Olivier Lisé-Coderre and Kash Tarasoff took first and third place, respectively, to secure berths in the finals. However, Rylan Wiens saw his run come to an end after placing fifth.
On Saturday, four finals are on the schedule: the men’s individual 3m, the women’s synchronized 3m, the men’s synchronized 10m, and the women’s individual 10m.
