Diving Canada and Boardworks Diving to host the 2022 Summer Senior National Championships in Victoria
Diving Plongeon Canada is pleased to welcome the country’s best senior divers in Victoria for the 2022 Summer National Championships. The event, hosted in collaboration with the Boardworks Diving Club at the Saanich Commonwealth Place, will see 50 divers from twelve diving clubs compete in the 1-metre, 3-metre and 10-metre events from May 27th to 29th. Live results will be accessible through diving.ca and a web broadcast will be available through CBC Sports.
The championships will serve as a qualification for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, GBR, from August 4th to 7th 2022, and the final qualification for the 2022 FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, from June 25th to July 7th, 2022. This will also be the last opportunity for Canadian divers to qualify for the FINA Diving Grand Prix in Calgary, AB, from June 9th to 12th, 2022.
Amongst the divers to look out for this weekend are reigning national champions Tazman Abramowicz (Calgary | 1m), Margo Erlam (Saskatoon |1m, 3m), Cedric Fofana (CAMO | 3m), Tanesha Lucoe (Boardworks | 10m) and Rylan Wiens (Saskatoon | 10m), who will all be back in action to defend their national titles.
The competition will also see the return of Tokyo 2020 Olympians Celina Toth (Boardworks) and Caeli McKay (Pointe-Claire) on women’s platform. The two divers haven’t competed since the Games last July and will be looking to secure their spot on this summer’s Worlds and Commonwealth Games teams. Olympians Nathan Zsombor-Murray (Pointe-Claire) and Pamela Ware (CAMO) are also expected to be amongst the top-competitors in Victoria.
Diving Canada and the Boardworks Diving Club thank Sport BC, BC Diving and the City of Victoria for their generous support towards these championships. Diving Canada also recognizes the ongoing support of its major funding partners: Sport Canada, the Canadian Olympic Committee and Own the Podium.
