Arnaud Corbeil Golden at Home
Junior Elite National Championships
Montréal, July 3, 2026 – Arnaud Corbeil’s only goals on Friday were simply to enjoy himself and do his best at the Junior Elite National Championships, being held at the Claude-Robillard Sports Complex in Montréal. And that mindset appears to have paid off: Corbeil won the gold medal in the men’s Group A 3m springboard event.
After finishing second in the preliminaries behind Sam McCaffrey (PCDC), Corbeil, who trains with the CAMO Club, hit his stride right from the start of the finals, quickly positioning himself as a serious contender for the top spot on the podium. He then sealed the deal by scoring 87.50 and 72.50 on his final two dives, securing the victory with a total score of 625.15.
McCaffrey finished just behind him, with 609.40 points.
“I felt very confident! My goals were simply to do my best and have a good time. I stayed focused on my own dives throughout the finals. I never even looked at the scores or the standings. And although my main goal today wasn’t necessarily to win, it feels great, and I’m proud of having done so,” said Corbeil.
Thanks to their respective scores, Corbeil and McCaffrey also met the selection criteria for the upcoming Junior World Championships. However, the official roster will only be announced in the next few weeks.
“I’m so glad to have this opportunity. Last year, I didn’t qualify for very many competitions, so it feels good to know that I’m back on track, and that I can achieve such good results,” he added.
In the same competition, Kash Tarasoff of Saskatoon finished third with 562.80 points.
After placing second yesterday in the men’s Group B 3m springboard event, Chase Shawhad his sights set on nothing less than the top spot on the podium in Friday’s 1m competition. And the Calgary diver achieved his goal, racking up a total of 385.90 points in the finals.
“I was pretty consistent all day, which I’m very happy about. Everything went really well, in my opinion. After finishing second yesterday, I wanted to win even more today. [Yesterday’s result] gave me that little boost of extra energy I needed to win gold this time,” Shaw explained.
The Albertan was accompanied on the podium by Mano Charron (CAMO, 359.35) and Jayden Parker (iDive, 345.85), who won a bronze medal on Thursday.
In the final competition of the day, Laurence Labadie (CAMO) was crowned champion in the women’s Group A platform diving finals.
Having placed first in the qualification rounds, the Québécoise felt a lot of pressure as she headed into the finals. However, with perfect composure, Labadie scored 390.85 points to take home the gold medal, just ahead of Ella Lindsay (Nepean, 376.90) and Livia McKibbin (ARO, 352.55), who collected silver and bronze, respectively.
“I was extremely stressed, so I’m really glad that all my dives went well, especially considering the fact that I’m one of the youngest divers in the category. It felt good to be diving at home, in my usual pool, with my friends and family cheering me on from the stands. So I managed to stay calm,” said Labadie, who will be back in action on Saturday for the 3m springboard contest. Two other events are also on Saturday’s schedule: the men’s Group A platform and women’s Group B 1m springboard competitions.
