A first national title on 3m for Nathan Zsombor-Murray
May 22, 2026 (Toronto) – After being crowned Canadian champion on the 10m platform several times over the past few years, Nathan Zsombor-Murray captured his first gold medal in the men’s 3m event at the Summer Senior National Championships on Friday at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre.
The Paris Olympic bronze medallist in the men’s synchronized 10m event transitioned from platform to springboard last season. He dominated the men’s 3m competition on Friday with a score of 471.25.
“It kind of feels like a full-circle moment. I won Nationals here back in 2021. It was my best performance on 10m, and now, five years later, I won Nationals on 3m with my best performance yet. I’m hoping I can keep up the consistency and momentum. I’m very happy with where things are going. I’ve been diving on 3m for around a year now, so I’m very happy,” said Nathan Zsombor-Murray, representing the Pointe-Claire Diving Club.
Tazman Abramowicz (Saskatoon Diving Club) finished second with a total of 423.85 points, while Victor Povzner (Optimal) claimed bronze with a score of 380.40.
Lila Stewart (Regina) was crowned women’s 1m champion. She earned a total of 242.20 points, edging out Keira Lu of Dive Victoria by just over three points. Lu placed second with a score of 239.10.
“I feel really good. Overall, today was a good day. I managed to stay consistent on my dives during both preliminaries and finals. I like starting with the 1m because it’s usually a calmer event and a good warm-up for the rest of the weekend,” said Lila Stewart, who is from Regina.
“I’m starting the weekend with a lot of confidence and I’m looking forward to the 3m tomorrow (Saturday),” she added.
Daniela Zapata finished third with 235.80 points. A Colombian national team member, Zapata is competing in Toronto as a guest athlete this week. Laurie-Anne Savard (CAMO) stepped onto the podium in third place among Canadian competitors with a score of 234.15.
