Madrid: Montreal’s Éloise Bélanger top Canadian on Day 2
Victor Povzner of Maple, Ont., and Elaena Dick of couldn’t match their preliminary round performances and were eliminated in the semifinals in their respective events on Saturday at a FINA Grand Prix diving competition.
On men’s three-metre, Woo Haram of South Korea won the gold medal with 457.60 points. Xiaohu Tai of China was second at 404.50 and Kim Yeongnam of South Korea third at 399.80.
Povzner started the day ranking eighth in the preliminaries with 354.90. The top-12 were split into two heats of six divers for the semifinal. However, in his semi, he scored low marks on two dives to finish sixth his heat with 329.20 for 10th overall.
‘’I’m disappointed with those mistakes in the final,’’ said Povzner. ‘’Those two dives are not always consistent for me but I should be able to do them better.’’
Henry McKay of Ottawa was 18th in the prelims and did not advance.
On women’s 10-m, Éloise Bélanger of Montreal was the top Canadian for the day in eighth overall after improving to 258.55 in her semifinal.
Dick was second in the preliminaries with 283.15 points but dropped to 250.15 for sixth in her semifinal heat and ninth overall.
‘’My goal was to deliver a more consistent performance than I did today,’’ said Dick.
Competition ends Sunday.
