Mia Vallée misses berth in final by one spot at FINA Grand Prix

ROSTOCK, Germany – Mia Vallée of Beaconsfield, Que., finished one spot short of reaching the women’s three-metre final on Saturday at the first stop on the FINA Grand Prix diving circuit for seventh overall.
China was 1-2 with Ying Wei first and Xiaohui Huang second. Uliana Kliueva of Russia was third.
Vallée grabbed the last spot for the semis placing 12th in the morning preliminaries with 234.45 points. In her semifinal heat she was fourth with 267.65. The top-three from each of the two semis advanced to the final.
‘’I had a tough preliminaries but I was pleased with how I came back in the semis,’’ said Vallée, 17. ‘’I was just more concentrated and the fact the rounds went quicker really helped me. I felt I dove to the best of my abilities in the semis but the field was very strong.’’
Vallée says her top objectives this year are to reach the top-three at the junior nationals and gain a spot in the Canadian team for the junior Pan Am Championships.
‘’I’ve competed with the same list this year,’’ she said. ‘’But I’ll have a break from competition now so I plan to review and see if I need to make some changes.’’
Competition ends Sunday. Ethan Pitman of Edmonton and Rylan Wiens of Saskatoon are entered in the men’s 10-m.
