Three Additional Medals for Canada in Mission Viejo
Junior America’s Cup
Montréal, May 24, 2026 – The California sun smiled upon Canadian divers Chase Shaw, Philippe Wadsworth, and Sara-Jade Tessieron Sunday, all of whom won their third medals of the weekend at the Junior America’s Cup in Mission Viejo.
Shaw was exceptional in the 14-15-year-old boys’ 3m final, where he amassed a total of 450.40 points, capturing the gold medal and edging out Australians Hayden Brinckley (428.35) and Zac Chan (397.95).
“My goal was to make it to the podium, but I didn’t expect to come in first. That was more than I expected. I was a bit nervous, and my training session hadn’t gone that well, but I stayed calm so that I’d be able to perform my dives well,” said Shaw.
“I also did well in my two other competitions, but of course, I’m extra proud of this gold medal. I think that overall, I did pretty good work,” added the Albertan, who won bronze in the 14-15-year-old 1m event and silver in the Group B platform competition earlier this weekend.
Alistair Nisbet, who captured gold in the Group B platform event on Friday, came very close to joining his compatriot on the podium in the 3m event on Sunday, finishing fourth with a total of 395.20 points.
In the 12-13-year-old boys’ platform contest, Wadsworth won the silver medal—his third piece of hardware at the Junior America’s Cup— with a final score of 148.20. Ivan Kliminov of Russia secured gold with 178.35 points, while Frank Li of the USA nabbed bronze with 121.60.
“I’m so glad I won this third medal. In the finals, I was able to redo a dive that I had botched in the preliminaries. I was definitely a little nervous, but I still felt confident that I could do it,” explained Wadsworth, referring to his backward one-and-a-half somersault in tuck position.
The athlete from British Columbia also grabbed silver medals in the Group C 1m event and—in the very first international competition of his career—the Group C 3m contest.
“I’m really proud of how I did in my first international competition. Coming here, I had no expectations at all. I just wanted to enjoy myself, so my results are a big surprise!”
In the 14-15-year-old girls’ platform contest, Tessier won her first silver medal of the weekend. Her score of 311.00 was bested only by Ella Guo of the USA, who finished with 332.80 points. Emily Collins of Australia (307.10) rounded out the top three, while British Columbia’s Maia Janefinished sixth with 277.30 points.
Earlier this weekend, Tessier picked up a gold medal in the 3m competition and a bronze medal in the Group B 1m event.
The Canadian team thus concludes the Junior America’s Cup in Mission Viejo with an impressive haul of ten medals.
