Yihua Li and Mary Carroll recognized by the Coaching Association of Canada
This year, Petro-Canada honours 67 coaches from 27 different sports with the 2023 Coaching Excellence Awards. These prestigious awards recognize coaches whose athletes have distinguished themselves at World Championships, Olympic and Paralympic Games, and Special Olympics World Games. Since 1986, Petro-Canada has presented this award to 1,512 coaches.
Among them, Mary Carroll (Saskatoon) and Yihua Li (Pointe-Claire) were recognized for their work with Rylan Wiens and Nathan Zsombor-Murray, Paris Olympic bronze medallists in 10m synchro.
Yihua Li and Mary Carroll teamed up to help their protégés make Canadian diving history. They won Canada’s first-ever men’s Olympic medal on the 10-meter tower.
In addition to Nathan Zsombor-Murray, Yihua Li coached Caeli McKay and Kate Miller in Paris. Mary Carroll worked with Margo Erlam.
