Sheffield: Quebec’s Maika Januario takes second spot

Canada earned its second top-three finish on Saturday at the British Elite Junior Diving Championships as Maika Januario of Terrebonne, QC, was third on women’s three-metre.
Local divers were 1-2 with Maisie Bond first at 345.80 and Jenna Davison second at 325.20. Januario followed at 310.00. Jordane Legault of Blainville, QC, was fourth at 309.95.
‘’It was a lot better than yesterday,’’ said Januario. ‘’My backward dive which I’ve struggled with turned out to be my best of the day. My extension, in particular, was a lot better.’’
Legault was disappointed not to get on the podium.
‘’It was a repeat of yesterday on the platform,’’ said Legault. ‘’My preliminaries were strong but my final didn’t go so well. And again it was my reverse dive that gave me the most trouble.’’
Renee Batalla of Victoria was 12th in the preliminaries and did not advance.
On men’s three-metre, Loic Tremblay of Quebec City missed the cut for the final by one spot placing seventh in the preliminaries. Emmitt Reesor of Waterloo, ON, third on platform on Friday, was 14th.
Competition ends Sunday.
